Planning ahead for dining in the great outdoors this June bank holiday weekend will help reduce waste, keep millions of single use cups, bottles and cutlery from ending up in our waste system or as litter, and reduce costs to local businesses according to My Waste.
Each day in Ireland more than half a million single use coffee cups, and close to a quarter of a million single use plastic bottles are used - the equivalent of 2.25million single use cups and bottles over a bank holiday weekend.
The Finnish waste management company, Posiva Oy, announced the start of excavation on their deep geologic nuclear waste repository for their spent nuclear fuel. Operation of the repository is expected to begin in 2023. The total cost estimate is about €2.6 billion ($3.4 billion).
Three local agricultural cooperatives in Fukushima, Japan, passed a special resolution on Friday expressing opposition to the government's decision to release nuclear waste water into the Pacific Ocean, accusing the government authorities of failing to properly explain the matter to Japanese citizens as well as fishery workers.

Up to 87pc of waste generated in Karachi recyclable, says Murtaza Wahab

Up to 87 per cent of the 15,000 tonnes of municipal waste generated daily in Karachi is recyclable, but instead of doing the recycling this trash is disposed of on the roadsides in Karachi.
The disclosure to this effect was made by Sindh Law and Environment Adviser, Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday as he presided over a conference held at the NED University of Engineering & Technology in collaboration with the UN Habitat to mark the upcoming World Environment Day.
He said still the old system of municipal waste disposal was being practised in two districts, namely Korangi and Central, in Karachi. He said a modern system of municipal waste disposal was being practised in the rest of the five districts of Karachi.
